LOS ANGELES & LONDON, 19 April 2020
This weekend, celebrities, politicians, activists, and healthcare workers around the globe came together for “One World: Together At Home”, the digital livestream event by Global Citizen and the World Health Organization, in collaboration with Lady Gaga. The event commenced with a six-hour pre-show online, followed by a global television broadcast concert in support of frontline healthcare workers fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
Annie Lennox and Lola Lennox were among the scores of musicians in Saturday’s pre-show line up. The mother-daughter duo, who are isolating away from one another in their homes, performed a beautiful harmony of There Must Be An Angel, co-written by Annie and fellow Eurythmic member David Stewart. The iconic song was Eurythmic’s first number one single in the UK in 1985, and has since been covered by several artists, including Luciano Pavarotti and Kylie Minogue.
Earlier in the livestream, Annie sang I Save the World Today, also co-written by herself and Stewart. The performance was a poignant message for better days coming.
“One World: Together At Home” was a powerful display of global solidarity, and the organizers raised $127.9 million for Covid-19 relief prior to the historic livestream. The proceeds will be given to the WHO’s Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
Global Citizen on Twitter: “$127.9 million for COVID-19 relief. / That is the power and impact of One World: #TogetherAtHome.”
