LONDON & LA, 28 July 2020
Discovery Channel’s landmark series SERENGETI, voiced by Academy Award winning actor Lupita Nyong’o, created by American Idol creator Simon Fuller, and directed by multi-award-winning wildlife filmmaker John Downer, has received two nominations at the 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. The nominations come in the following categories: Outstanding Narrator (for Lupita Nyong’o) and Outstanding Cinematography for a Non-Fiction Program, crediting directors of photography Richard Jones, Michael W. Richards, Warren Samuels, and Matthew Goodman.
The six-part wildlife docuseries is the highest rated American nature documentary since 2013, when it was first broadcast in North America last year; it’s already won at the Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards, and the British-based production team is currently in Africa filming Season 2.
Simon Fuller: “Of all the shows I have created, nothing compares to Serengeti. The heartfelt stories, the intensity of the drama, and the depth of emotion is something I have been genuinely moved by. The genius of John Downer capturing the most personal and extraordinary moments from these beautiful animals’ lives is awe inspiring.”
SERENGETI is made by XIX Entertainment and John Downer Productions and was commissioned for BBC TV (UK) and acquired by the Discovery Channel (USA).
The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards will broadcast live on Monday, 20 Sept 2020 at 5pm PT / 8pm ET.
