(Paris, 1st March 2013) Roland Mouret today unveiled his inaugural bag collection during his Autumn Winter 2013 catwalk show at the Westin Hotel, Paris. The collection wowed critics and afterwards Mouret revealed the inspiration behind his new work.
“I wanted to share with you my feelings on why I love to show in Paris – it is because Paris evokes something in me, each season it inspires me to make the collection more ‘Parisienne’ , it makes demands on you and of you. It seems to me Paris has its own definitions in the ‘dictionnaire de la mode’ to make something more ‘Parisienne’, it obliges you to step away from the trends that could happen in London, New York and Milan. I learnt of British quirkiness with my first shows in London, learnt of American sportswear when I showed in New York but Paris is different. Being inspired all the time by the silver screen, the cinematic direction of this collection is based around the ultimate Parisienne Catherine Deneuve in The Hunger. For day to evening I focused on strong tailoring, three dimensional folds, bold colours and an ‘air de danger’.
Mouret launches his range of bags in four styles to be worn alongside the full RTW collection, with designs that translate easily from day to evening. An emphasis is placed on clean essential shapes and beautiful materials favoured by Roland Mouret that will endure time and wear.
The Roland Mouret fashion brand (19RM Ltd) is a joint venture between Roland Mouret and Simon Fuller’s XIX entertainment. Formed in August 2006 as “RM by the designer Roland Mouret” it followed Mouret’s 8 years of critical acclaim within the global fashion industry. In September 2010 rights to the ‘Roland Mouret” name were acquired by the venture and in March 2011 the first Roland Mouret store was opened at 8 Carlos Place, Mayfair, London, in the form of a “maison” with atelier and HQ on the premises.
Mouret has become recognized for the use of draping and for the “perfect” fitted dress, including the iconic Galaxy, Moon, Titanium and Pigalle styles. 2012 saw the launch of the Roland Mouret shoe and bridal collections as well as the expansion of its successful sunglasses line. Further global expansion is planned for 2013, after three consecutive years of strong double digit growth.
